TEACHING OVERVIEW

As a faculty member at Blue Lake University, my journey in teaching over the last six years has been marked by a commitment to providing high-quality education, fostering innovative learning environments, and continuously improving teaching methodologies. My instructional portfolio spans both undergraduate and graduate levels, encompassing courses such as EDU 602 - Research Methods in Education, EDU 501 - Curriculum Design and Assessment Strategies, EDU 301 - Science Education, EDU 201 - Classroom Management, and EDU 401 - Curriculum Development.

In the graduate course EDU 602, I have focused on equipping future educational leaders and researchers with robust skills in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. This course, a blend of theoretical and practical learning, is designed to enable students to effectively contribute to educational practices and policies. At the same time, EDU 501 addresses the nuances of creating effective curricula for diverse educational settings, including instructional design and technology integration.

At the undergraduate level, EDU 301 aims to prepare future educators for teaching science with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning and technology usage. Meanwhile, EDU 201 offers a comprehensive view of classroom management, focusing on creating positive learning atmospheres, while EDU 401 delves into the principles and practicalities of curriculum development in a fully online format.

Throughout my teaching career, I have consistently strived to create an enriching educational environment. My teaching philosophy goes beyond the transmission of knowledge; it's about shaping how students engage with and interpret the world. By incorporating active learning strategies, I aim to enhance students' capacity to retain and apply knowledge.

As a facilitator, my methods are diverse and student-focused. I prioritize accessibility, responding promptly to queries and emphasizing a mastery-learning approach over traditional grading systems. An iterative feedback loop is central to my teaching, allowing students to receive constructive feedback on their assignments.

Moreover, I continuously adapt my teaching methods based on student feedback and educational research. For instance, changes made to EDU 201 and EDU 401 in response to student suggestions led to improved student evaluations and a more engaged learning environment. I also engage in professional development, as evidenced by completing Google Certified Educator workshops, to stay abreast of the latest educational technology trends.

Teaching first-year courses has been particularly gratifying, offering the opportunity to shape students' initial academic experiences. Their enthusiasm renews my passion for teaching and inspires ongoing refinement of my pedagogical methods. I have integrated student feedback into course improvements, such as introducing more interactive activities and collaborative exercises.

In summary, my teaching approach is an amalgamation of research-driven strategies, student-centered feedback, and a commitment to continuous improvement. While I have made significant strides in refining my teaching methods, I recognize the dynamic nature of academia and remain dedicated to evolving my techniques to provide the best possible educational experience for my students.
