Unal, Z., Schneider, J., Burger, L., Bodur, Y., Franco, Y., & Arthur, S. (under review). Transforming Student Learning and Engagement Through an AI-Powered Course Material Integration Platform. ($500,000 PI: Unal, Z., 25% annual effort).
This project aims to improve how students learn course materials by replacing scattered course materials with an AI-powered platform. Instead of skimming disconnected PDFs, videos, and links, students will use one system that answers questions, summarizes content, offers practice, and gives personalized help. The team will build and test the platform in year one. In year two, faculty at three universities will use it in real courses, allowing a direct comparison between traditional and AI-supported teaching. By year three, the project will analyze student and faculty feedback, test scores, grades, and usage data to measure the platform’s impact.

The FacultyServer Center represents a comprehensive five-year research initiative addressing the systematic integration of AI in higher education. This $10 million project investigates current AI applications in postsecondary instruction, develops and tests AI-powered faculty support tools, evaluates impacts on teaching and learning, conducts cost-benefit analyses of implementation, and creates research-based guidelines for institutions. The Center serves as a national hub for AI in higher education through faculty training, policy guidance, and collaboration opportunities across diverse institutional contexts, bringing together researchers from the University of South Florida, Georgia Southern University, and the University of Tampa.
