This course is designed to guide future educational leaders in the process of sound action research in order to support and sustain positive change to enhance student achievement in K12 schools. Action research provides educators, administrators, and community leaders a method to study localized problems that results in solutions and action plans to address these issues. Over the course of the semester, students will identify a question about the use of technology in their own teaching practice, review the current research literature, develop a plan to collect data, collect and analyze their data, identify emergent themes, create an action plan and write an action research paper.

This course is designed to introduce students the computer technology and its function in the classroom to augment the teaching and learning processes. Topics include the critical evaluation of educational software; conceptualizing uses of computers in the classroom in terms of computer-directed instruction, computer-enhanced instruction, and computer-managed instruction; understanding hardware; using and applying commercial courseware, general applications software, word processors, database managers, etc., and disk operating systems.

This course is designed for prospective elementary education teachers of science providing students opportunities to explore (1) how to create a science curriculum aligned with National and State Science and other subject standards, (2) how to design an inquiry-based science program, (3) how to assess student's performance by using a combination of traditional and performance-based assessment strategies, (4) increasing understanding of science, (5) how to use technology effectively to locate appropriate resources in teaching science, and (6) how to modify science lessons and activities to meet the needs of various student populations (i.e., English for Speakers of Other Languages, Students with Disabilities, etc.).

This course is based on the national and state educational technology standards and is designed to prepare teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum. It focuses on the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.
