  • Assignment 1: "Masterpiece Recreation" Reflection:

    The "Masterpiece Recreation" assignment was a transformative experience in several ways. Firstly, it allowed me to engage deeply with Learning Outcome 1, which is the understanding and application of artistic techniques. While recreating a renowned artwork, I dissected the various elements that make a piece stand out, such as color balance, composition, and texture. I found that this hands-on experience was far more instructive than merely reading about these techniques.

    Secondly, this assignment tapped into Learning Outcome 4, which aims to develop observational skills. While examining my chosen masterpiece, I learned to pay attention to detail, a skill that is crucial in all forms of art. In other words, I became more proficient in interpreting and understanding visual information, which is not only useful in art but also in everyday life.

    But most of all, I was surprised by how much this assignment contributed to Learning Outcome 7, centered around the appreciation of art history and artistic movements. By diving into the background of the masterpiece and its creator, I gained a newfound respect for the traditions, techniques, and societal factors that shaped it.

    Assignment 2: "Portfolio Showcase" Reflection:

    The "Portfolio Showcase" was a pivotal moment in my journey through the ART 9 course. Primarily, it allowed me to exercise Learning Outcome 3, which is about developing a coherent and personal artistic style. By curating various pieces of my work in one place, I had to think critically about the thematic and stylistic threads that connected them. This curatorial effort was a practical application of Learning Outcome 5, concerning critical evaluation skills.

    Moreover, this assignment engaged with Learning Outcome 8, focused on the effective presentation of art. I learned the nuances of layout, space management, and aesthetics in how art is displayed, whether digitally or physically. After more than a month of classwork and personal exploration, seeing my artworks collectively gave me a unique sense of fulfillment and accomplishment, touching on Learning Outcome 10, which promotes self-efficacy in artistic creation.

    Assignment 3: "Public Art Installation" Reflection:

    The "Public Art Installation" was a capstone experience of sorts. It engaged directly with Learning Outcome 2, concerning the understanding and utilization of different media and forms. We worked in a group, and I was responsible for certain elements that I had never worked with before. This broadened my understanding of material capabilities and limitations.

    The assignment also served Learning Outcome 6, which aims to build teamwork and communication skills. Collaborating on a public piece required a different level of coordination and collective decision-making. The feedback loop among team members was invaluable. Instead of working in isolation, I learned the beauty and complexity of shared artistic vision.

    Lastly, because our installation was public and interacted with the community, it resonated with Learning Outcome 9, focusing on the social and communal aspects of art. I saw firsthand the impact of art on people who viewed our installation. It felt rewarding and offered a fresh perspective on the power of art to inspire, provoke thought, and build community.

    In summary, each assignment in the ART 9 course was a building block towards fulfilling the learning outcomes. I've not only honed technical skills but have also developed a deeper understanding of the thematic, historical, and social dimensions of art. The course provided me with a well-rounded foundation, not just in the field of art, but also in skills and insights that will be invaluable in any future endeavor
